321 pre fabrication of pipe spools is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel. The base composition is essentially 304 (18Cr-8Ni) with a small addition of titanium, typically 5×(C+N) minimum, which works out to roughly 0.15-0.40% Ti depending on carbon content. 321H has a controlled minimum carbon content to ensure elevated-temperature creep strength. The H grade is what most refinery specifications call for above 540°C. From a fabrication standpoint, 321H welds slightly differently - the higher carbon means more carbide precipitation risk if stabilization isn't effective, which puts more emphasis on proper welding parameters.
