Hastelloy C276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with tungsten added for enhanced performance. Its outstanding performance is due to its carefully designed chemical composition (typical composition: Ni ~57%, Cr ~15.5%, Mo ~16%, W ~3.75%, Fe ~5.5%, C is very low) and a stable solid solution strengthened single-phase austenite structure.

In strong reducing acids such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, especially at moderate concentrations and temperatures, its corrosion resistance far exceeds that of 316L stainless steel and many other nickel-based alloys. Low carbon and silicon content minimizes grain boundary precipitation and is the key to its stability.
