In chemical industry, traditional stainless steel (such as 316L, 904L) generally has pitting, intergranular corrosion or stress corrosion cracking problems sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, mixed acid and complex solutions containing halogen ions. Nickel-based alloys (such as Hastelloy C-276) have excellent performance but high costs, so Alloy 31 plates with both high performance and economy become an ideal solution.

In the field of 90%-98% concentrated sulfuric acid storage, Alloy 31 plates rely on their unique Cr-Ni-Mo-N alloy system to form a dense Cr₂O₃ passivation film, which effectively resists the strong oxidative corrosion of concentrated sulfuric acid.

The core corrosion zone of wet phosphoric acid production (30% H₃PO₄+5% HF+20% solid impurities + 80℃) requires "integrated wear resistance" for materials. The PREN value (pitting resistance equivalent) of Alloy 31 plate is as high as 48, forming a stable AlN-Fe₂Ni passivation layer in F⁻-containing media.

In the phosphoric acid concentration section (45% H₃PO₄+ trace Cl⁻+120℃+ vacuum environment), Alloy 31 plate has excellent resistance to crevice corrosion. Its surface roughness can be controlled at Ra≤0.8μm, and the smooth weld formed by laser welding process significantly reduces the risk of crevice corrosion caused by scale deposition.

Under the working condition of 15%-20% hydrochloric acid + 50℃, the uniform corrosion resistance of Alloy 31 plate is better than that of conventional nickel-based alloys. In the core reactor of lithium battery electrolyte production (working condition: 10% H₂SO₄+15% HF+60℃), Alloy 31 plate shows unique advantages. The synergistic effect of its Cr content (27%) and N content (0.22%) forms a stable CrF3 passivation layer in the HF medium, and the Ni-based solid solution effectively resists the oxidative corrosion of sulfuric acid.

Alloy 31 plate has good cold forming performance and can withstand a maximum of 30% cold deformation without affecting corrosion resistance. The welding process uses ERNiCrMo-13 welding wire (matching the plate composition) and TIG pulse welding technology. The ferrite content in the weld area is controlled at 3%-5%, avoiding the sensitization problem of the heat-affected zone of conventional austenitic stainless steel welding.

The initial investment of Alloy 31 equipment is 40% higher than that of 316L, but the maintenance cost (including downtime loss) during the 8 life cycle is only 1/3 of the latter, and the full cycle cost is reduced by 25%. Compared with Hastelloy C276, the cost can be reduced by 30% in the application of phosphoric acid reaction tanks, and the corrosion resistance life is extended by 15%, with outstanding cost-effectiveness.
