  • Class 3000: Standard duty for high-pressure systems (pairs with Schedule 80/XS pipe).
  • Class 6000: Heavy duty for extreme pressure/temperature applications (pairs with Schedule 160 pipe).
  • Class 9000: Extra heavy duty (less common, pairs with Schedule XXS pipe).

NPS (Nominal Pipe Size): Identifies the matching pipe size (1/8″ through 4″).

Socket Bore Diameter: The inside diameter of the socket opening where the pipe enters.

Socket Depth: The minimum depth from the lip of the fitting to the internal shoulder.

Length of Cap: The overall height/length of the fitting.

Outside Diameter: The total outer diameter across the forged body.

Visual Inspection: Verify the socket bore is free from burrs, metal shavings, or ovality that would block pipe insertion.

NDT Requirements: Socket welds are commonly inspected using Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) or Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) after welding, as volumetric NDT like Radiography (RT) is difficult on socket configurations.
