The ASME B16.5 N08825 SO flange (Slip-On Flange) is a widely used connection element in piping systems. Its unique design allows the pipe to be slipped into the flange bore and secured by a fillet weld between the flange face and the pipe outer wall. HT PIPE supply all different types and scales of flanges. Please feel free to contact us for further product information and pricing.
ASME N08825 SO Flange Hot Working and Forming
N08825 SO flanges are typically formed using hot working processes, with the ideal hot working temperature being between 1150°C and 900°C. Within this temperature range, the material exhibits optimal plasticity and formability, allowing forging or press forming to create the initial flange shape.
After hot working, the workpiece requires rapid cooling, either by water quenching or rapid air cooling, to ensure the material achieves the ideal crystal structure and corrosion resistance.
NC1243 Incoloy 825 Flange Cold Working and Finishing
For smaller or more demanding SO flanges, cold working may be required after hot working to achieve precise dimensional requirements. The work hardening rate of N08825 alloy is similar to that of austenitic stainless steel, so an intermediate annealing step is required when the amount of cold working (typically exceeding 15%) is significant.
After cold working, the flange enters the finishing stage, which includes machining operations such as turning and drilling. During machining, a strategy of low surface cutting speeds and heavy feeds is employed to accommodate the material's work-hardening characteristics.
Alloy 825 Flange Heat Treatment Process
Heat treatment is a critical step in ensuring optimal performance of the N08825 SO flange. The temperature range for soft annealing or stabilization treatment is 920-980°C, with an optimum temperature of 940 ± 10°C. For workpieces thicker than 1.5 mm, water quenching or rapid air cooling is recommended to maximize creep resistance.

UNS N08825 Flange Acid Corrosion Resistance
Sulfuric Acid: Resistant to boiling sulfuric acid up to 40% and all sulfuric acid concentrations up to 60% at temperatures up to 80°C.
Phosphoric Acid: Demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in phosphoric acid production environments and is suitable for heat exchangers, evaporators, washers, and dip tubes.
Nitric Acid and Organic Acids: Demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance in environments with a wide range of nitric acid and organic acids.
ASTM B564 Incoloy Alloy 825 Slip On Flanges Localized Corrosion Resistance
Pitting and Crevice Corrosion: The synergistic effect of chromium and molybdenum forms a stable passive film, effectively resisting localized corrosion caused by chloride and other halogen ions.
Stress Corrosion Cracking: The high nickel content provides effective resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Cracking, especially in environments containing chlorides and caustic soda.
Intergranular corrosion: Stabilized annealing maintains excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion even after welding.
Incoloy UNS N08825 Flanges Installation Guidelines
Pre-installation Inspection: Verify that the flange sealing surface is intact and free of scratches, pits, and other defects. Check that the gasket is compatible with the media and is of the correct size.
Alignment and Insertion: Ensure that the pipe is aligned with the flange hole and fully inserted into the flange, flush with the flange face.
Welding Process: Use an appropriate welding process; tungsten inert gas (TIG) or metal inert gas (MIG) welding is recommended.
Filler Material: Use compatible welding consumables, such as AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-3 welding wire or AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-3 welding rod.
Bolt Tightening: Tighten the bolts evenly in a cross-sectional, symmetrical sequence to ensure uniform force on the gasket and an effective seal.
