S316LN threaded flanges consist of three parts: the flange body, the threaded hole (or external thread interface), and the sealing surface.

 

The flange body is circular. The outer diameter and thickness were determined by the nominal pressure and nominal diameter. Bolt holes are typically provided on the body for securing two mating flanges with bolts, ensuring a tight connection.

 

The threaded interface is the core connection point. For internally threaded flanges, the threaded hole is machined on the inner wall of the central through-hole. For externally threaded flanges, the thread is machined on the outer side of the central boss. 

 

The sealing surface is located on the mating end face of the flange and is crucial for achieving a seal. Surface roughness and flatness must meet standards to prevent media leakage.

ASTM A312 316LN SS Core Design Parameters

Nominal Diameter (DN): Range covers DN10-DN200. This determines the flange's flow capacity and connection dimensions and must strictly match the nominal diameter of the matching pipeline.

 

Nominal Pressure (PN): Common specifications are PN1.6MPa, PN2.5MPa, PN4.0MPa, and PN6.4MPa. Some high-pressure conditions can reach PN10.0MPa. 

 

Thread Type: Commonly used thread standards include NPT (American Standard Tapered Pipe Thread), BSPP (British Standard Non-Sealing Straight Pipe Thread), and BSPT (British Standard Sealing Tapered Pipe Thread). NPT threads are the most widely used in industrial pipelines due to their superior sealing performance. 

 

Sealing Surface Types: There are three main types: RF (Raised Face), FF (Flat Face), and MFM (Mixed Face). RF sealing surfaces are suitable for most operating conditions due to their simple processing and reliable sealing. MFM sealing surfaces, with their raised face and recessed surface fit, offer superior sealing performance and are suitable for high-pressure or highly corrosive media. FF sealing surfaces are suitable for low-pressure applications requiring full contact with the gasket.

Operating Pressure: The pressure should not exceed the rated value corresponding to the nominal pressure. For high-pressure applications, a specification of PN6.4MPa or higher must be selected.

 

Operating Temperature: -270℃ to 550℃. Temperatures exceeding this range require specialized design and performance verification.

 

Media Types: S316LN threaded flange is suitable for neutral, acidic, and alkaline media, media containing chloride ions, and organic compounds. Not suitable for strong oxidizing media (such as concentrated nitric acid and high-concentration hydrogen peroxide), as these media will damage the passivation film, leading to corrosion failure.

 

Installation Environment: Suitable for various environments including indoors, outdoors, and offshore. Outdoor or humid environments require protection to prevent long-term water accumulation and crevice corrosion.
