ASME B16.9 crosses, also known as four-way pipe crosses, are critical pipe fittings used to connect four pipes at a right angle. It enables multi-directional fluid or gas flow in piping systems. HT PIPE is a leading stockist and global exporter with over 15 years of expertise in international trade. We supply pipes, plates, round bars, and a comprehensive range of pipe fittings, flanges, and valves. Contact us now for free quotes and personalized product information.
Dimensional Tolerances for ASME B16.9 Crosses
Centerline-to-Face Length (C Dimension) Tolerance: For NPS 1/2 to NPS 24 (DN 15 to DN 600), the tolerance is ±1/8 inch (±3.2 mm). For NPS 26 to NPS 48 (DN 650 to DN 1200), the tolerance is ±3/16 inch (±4.8 mm).
Welding End OD Tolerance: ±0.010 inch (±0.25 mm) for NPS up to NPS 2 (DN 50). ±0.020 inch (±0.51 mm) for NPS 2-12 (DN 50-300). ±0.030 inch (±0.76 mm) for NPS 14 and above (DN 350 and above).
Wall Thickness Tolerance: Minimum wall thickness must not be less than 90% of the specified minimum wall thickness. Maximum wall thickness is not specified but must not interfere with welding or pipe alignment.
Bevel Angle Tolerance: ±2.5° from the specified 37.5° angle. Root face dimension tolerance is ±1/32 inch (±0.79 mm).
Dimensional Verification Tests
Visual Inspection: Checking for surface defects and general dimensional alignment of the branches.
Dimensional Measurement: Using precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, tape measures, coordinate measuring machines) to verify centerline-to-face length, welding end OD, wall thickness, bevel angle, and root face dimension.
Radiographic Testing (RT) or Ultrasonic Testing (UT): For welded crosses, RT or UT is used to detect internal weld defects that could affect dimensional stability or structural integrity.
Material Test Reports (MTRs): Providing documentation of the base material's chemical composition and mechanical properties, which indirectly ensures dimensional compatibility.
