The core characteristic of ASME B36.19 Sch80 Pipe is its focus on stainless steel materials, with SCH80 (including Sch 80S) being one of the most widely used medium-to-high pressure grades. The standard clearly specifies that SCH80 pipes are suitable for high and low temperature, high and low pressure conditions. Our manufacturers can produce seamless and welded pipes to meet industry requirements. Contact us market@htpipe.com for more information and a free quote!
Manufacturing Process Specifications
Seamless Manufacturing Process: Uses hot rolling, cold drawing, or extrusion forming, eliminating the need for welded seams. This results in higher pressure resistance and overall integrity, making it suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature, and highly corrosive conditions, as well as for pipes with smaller nominal diameters (typically NPS 4 and below). Heat treatment (such as solution annealing) is also required to improve the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the material.
Welded Manufacturing Process: Uses stainless steel plates rolled and welded into shape, including submerged arc welding and TIG welding. This is suitable for pipes with larger nominal diameters (NPS 4 and above), offering advantages in high production efficiency and lower cost. The standard requires 100% non-destructive testing (such as ultrasonic testing and radiographic testing) of the welded seams to ensure that the seam quality is consistent with the pipe body. Heat treatment is required after welding to relieve welding stress and prevent stress corrosion cracking.

Performance Advantages of ASME B36.19 SCH80 Pipe
Pressure Resistance and Impact Resistance: The wall thickness design of the SCH80 grade gives it higher compressive strength than SCH40 pipes, allowing it to withstand higher design pressures. The good wall thickness uniformity improves the pipe's impact resistance and deformation resistance, ensuring safer and more stable operation under high-pressure conditions, and reducing the likelihood of leaks and bursts.
Corrosion Resistance: Stainless steel itself possesses excellent corrosion resistance, capable of withstanding corrosion from various media such as atmosphere, water, weak acids and bases, and steam. By selecting different grades, it can be adapted to highly corrosive conditions, significantly extending the service life of the pipes and reducing maintenance costs.
High and Low Temperature Resistance: Commonly used stainless steel grades can withstand temperatures ranging from -270℃ to 900℃. Whether in low-temperature freezing environments or high-temperature steam environments, it maintains stable mechanical properties and dimensional stability, without embrittlement or deformation due to temperature changes, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
