ASTM A213 TP317 UNS S31700 pipe

ASTM A213 TP317 UNS S31700 is a common material used for boiler tubes. Alloy 317 consists of elements such as chromium, nickel and molybdenum, and has excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance up to 1700°F (927°C). As well as excellent mechanical and physical properties.

Why Choose ASTM A213 TP317 Material?

Chemical Composition:

Carbon (C) content 0.08% MAX
Manganese (Mn) content 2.00% MAX
Silicon (Si) content 0.75% MAX
Phosphorus (P) content 0.045% MAX
Sulfur (S) content 0.030% MAX
Chromium (Cr) content between 18.0%-20.0%
Nickel (Ni) content between 11.0%-15.0%
Molybdenum (Mo) content between 3.0%-4.0%
Nitrogen (N) content 0.10% MAX

The high chromium content in alloy 317 makes it highly corrosion resistant, and the molybdenum content improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it a choice for seawater and other chloride-rich environments.

SS 317 Tubing Mechanical Properties

  • Tensile strength: not less than 515 MPa (75 ksi)
  • Yield strength (0.2% deflection): not less than 205 MPa (30 ksi)
  • Elongation: not less than 35%
  • Hardness (Brinell hardness): not more than 217 HB

1.4449 Aisi 317 High Temperature Resistance

ASME SA213 UNS S31700 has a high temperature service temperature of up to about 1700°F (927°C). This high temperature tolerance makes it very suitable for applications in high temperature environments such as boilers, superheaters and heat exchangers.

Primary Boiler and Process Environments

Due to its high mechanical limits and acid resistance, ASTM A213 TP317 stainless tube systems are implemented across multiple high-stress sectors:

  • Fossil fuel and biomass power plant boiler assemblies and reheater loops.
  • Superheater element elements and high-pressure steam utility lines.
  • Flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubber systems vulnerable to condensed sulfurous acids.
  • Petrochemical heat exchangers and pharmaceutical processing equipment.
