ASTM A240 S316L Stub Ends Supplier

ASTM A240 S316L stub ends are pipe connection fittings, also known as short pipe ends or flanged short sections. Their core function is to work with loose flanges to achieve detachable connections in piping systems, while also providing port reinforcement and media transition functions.

Key Characteristics of S316L Stub Ends

Corrosion Resistance: The addition of molybdenum to the S316L material significantly enhances its resistance to corrosive media such as chloride ions, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid. It effectively resists corrosion from acidic and alkaline environments, marine salt spray environments, and chemical media, preventing failure issues such as pitting and intergranular corrosion, thus extending the service life of the fittings and piping system.

Mechanical Properties: The low carbon content of S316L stainless steel optimizes the material's toughness and ductility. It maintains stable mechanical properties in low-temperature environments (from -40°C to room temperature) without the risk of brittle fracture. It can still maintain structural strength in high-temperature environments (up to 800°C), adapting to complex working conditions with alternating high and low temperatures.

Processing Adaptability: S316L material has excellent weldability and formability. During the stamping, forging, and welding processes of stub ends, dimensional accuracy can be precisely controlled, and the weld seam formation quality is stable. It can achieve a tight fit with pipes, flanges, and other fittings, ensuring connection sealing.

Sanitary Grade Characteristics: S316L stainless steel surface is easy to clean and does not release harmful impurities. It meets the material standards for food contact and pharmaceutical production, avoiding contamination of the media and meeting the requirements of sanitary piping systems.

Common Types and Selection Guidelines for S316L Stub Ends

Classified by Structure: Mainly divided into Type A (flat face butt joint), Type B (raised face butt joint), and Type C (socket type).

Type A Stub Ends are suitable for flat loose flanges, with a flat sealing surface, suitable for medium and low-pressure conditions.

Type B Stub Ends have a raised face sealing structure, offering better sealing performance, suitable for medium and high-pressure conditions.

Type C Stub Ends use a socket connection, facilitating pipe insertion and positioning, improving welding accuracy, and suitable for thin-walled piping systems.

Classification by Forming Process: Divided into stamped Stub Ends and forged Stub Ends. Stamped forming is suitable for small diameter (DN15-DN200) and thin-walled (thickness ≤10mm) specifications, offering high production efficiency and controllable costs, making it suitable for mass production. Forged forming is suitable for large diameter (DN200 and above), thick-walled (thickness >10mm) or high-pressure applications.

Core Selection Guidelines: The type and specifications should be determined based on pipe diameter, wall thickness, working pressure, media type, and connection method. For example, forged Type B Stub Ends are preferred for high-pressure chemical pipelines. Polished Type A Stub Ends are preferred for food and pharmaceutical grade pipelines. Type C Stub Ends with anti-corrosion treatment are required for marine engineering pipelines. and custom-made Stub Ends can be ordered for non-standard pipelines.
