ASTM A312 TP316L Chemical Composition
ASTM A312 TP316L Pipe is made of a low carbon version of 316 stainless steel. The alloy 316L contains 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel, 2-3% molybdenum, and other trace elements. This composition gives the pipe its excellent corrosion resistance properties, even in severe environments.
UNS S31603 Mechanical Performance Characteristics
When tested to ASTM A370 tensile testing standards, the ASTM A312 UNS S31603 pipe can withstand loads up to 900MPa, making it suitable for use in structural members that bear tensile loads, such as beams, columns, frames, etc.
DIN 1.4404 material yield strength ranges from 185-205MPa, depending on the extent of cold working performed on the material during manufacturing operations and the annealed condition prior to testing according to the ASTM A370 standard.
1.4435 material hardness values range between 200HBW and 300HBS, depending on the amount of cold working performed during the manufacturing operation.
ASTM A312 TP316l Material Properties
- Corrosion Resistance: The high concentration of chromium in ASME SA312 TP316L pipe makes it resistant to corrosion by oxidizing agents such as chlorine and other halides. The alloy's molybdenum content also helps to resist pitting and crevice corrosion.
- High Heat Resistance: The low carbon content of TP316L pipe makes it highly resistant to high-temperature environments exceeding 1650°F (899°C).
- Excellent Weldability
- Good Fabrication Properties
- Low Magnetic Permeability
Applications and Uses of A312 TP316L Material
