S32205 (2205 duplex steel) is a second-generation duplex stainless steel. By balancing the two-phase structure of austenite and ferrite (the ratio is close to 50:50), it has high strength, excellent chloride corrosion resistance and good weldability, making it an ideal pipe material for harsh environments such as chemical industry and marine engineering. HT PIPE is a S32205 Pipe supplier with 15+ export experience. Contact us for more information and quotes for free!
SS 2205 Chemical composition
The chemical composition of S32205 is centered on high chromium, high molybdenum and nitrogen: chromium (22.0~23.0%) provides the basis for the passivation film, molybdenum (3.0~3.5%) enhances local corrosion resistance, and nitrogen (0.14~0.20%) acts as a strong austenite stabilizer to inhibit the precipitation of harmful intermetallic phases and improve strength.

Alloy 2205 Pipe Chloride environment
In seawater and brine solutions, the ability to resist pitting and crevice corrosion is significantly better than 316L, and the annual corrosion rate is as low as negligible, which is especially suitable for submarine pipelines.
Duplex S32205 Stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
The dual-phase structure blocks the crack propagation path, and its tolerance in oil and gas environments containing H₂S and CO₂ is much higher than that of austenitic stainless steel.
2205 Stainless Steel Pipe Uniform corrosion
It has good resistance to reducing acid media such as sulfuric acid and acetic acid, but alloys with higher chromium content need to be selected in strong oxidizing acids (such as concentrated nitric acid).
