Introduction Nickel 201 Round Bar Rod
Alloy 201 UNS N02201 is a low carbon, commercially pure wrought alloy grade. Produced under specification ASTM B160, these Nickel 201 Round Bar may be processed by means of either hot-working, cold-working, or annealing. The properties of this alloy 201 are similar to that of alloy 200. However, because the content of carbon is lower in the alloy of Nickel 201 Round Bar, it is not susceptible to embrittlement brought on by inter-granular carbon at elevated temperatures.
1. Nickel 201 Bar Chemical Composition:

Manganese (Mn): Maximum 0.35%
Silicon (Si): Maximum 0.35%
Copper (Cu): Maximum 0.25%
Carbon (C): Maximum 0.02%
Sulfur (S): Maximum 0.010%
2. Nickel 201 Rod Mechanical Properties:

- Melting Point: 1446°C (2635°F)
- Specific Heat: 0.444 J/g-°C at 23°C
- Coefficient of Expansion: 14.9 µm/m-°C (20-100°C)
4. ASME SB 160 Nickel Alloy 201 Bar Thermal Properties:
- Thermal Conductivity: 79.3 W/m-K at 23°C
- Electrical Resistivity: 0.000110 ohm-cm at 20°C
5. 2.4068 Nickel 201 Round Bar Corrosion Resistance:
- General corrosion resistance: Due to its high purity nickel (99.0% minimum) composition, Nickel 201 shows excellent corrosion resistance to general corrosive media, such as most acids, alkalis, salts, etc.
- Resistance to reducing environments: 2.4061 Nickel 201 exhibits high corrosion resistance in reducing environments, such as strong reducing acids (such as sulfuric acid). Its low carbon content helps reduce sensitivity to reducing acids, making it ideal in these environments.
- Limited oxidation resistance: Although Nickel alloy 201 bar has good corrosion resistance to most oxidizing media, it may be affected by some effects in strong oxidizing environments.
6. ASTM B160 UNS N02201 Rod Fabrication and Heat Treatment:
DIN 2.4068 round bars can be hot worked between 649-1232°C (1200-2250°F). Annealing is performed at temperatures between 704-871°C (1300-1600°F).
- Diameter: 5-500mm
- Length: 12m min, or customized
- Diameter Tolerance: H7, H9, H10, H11
7. Applications of ASTM B160 Nickel 201 Round Bar
- Chemical Processing: Din 2.4068 Hex Bar is widely used in chemical processing equipment, such as valves, pumps, and heat exchangers, due to its excellent corrosion resistance.
- Power Generation: Nickel Alloy 201 Square bar is used in power generation industries, such as nuclear power plants, due to its high strength and resistance to thermal expansion.
- Aerospace: Alloy 201 Flat bar is used in the aerospace industry for manufacturing various parts, including turbine blades, compressor discs, and heat exchangers, due to its high strength, corrosion resistance, and ductility.
8. Differences Between Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) and Nickel 201 (UNS N02201):
- Carbon Content: Nickel 201 round bar has a lower carbon content (0.02% maximum) compared to Nickel 200 (0.15% maximum). This makes Nickel 201 less susceptible to graphitization and associated embrittlement at elevated temperatures.
- Magnetic Permeability: Nickel 201 exhibits slightly higher magnetic permeability than Nickel 200.
- Applications: Nickel 201 is often preferred in applications where lower carbon content is critical, such as in the manufacturing of electronic components and handling reducing acids.
