ss2205 has an overwhelming advantage in chloride-containing media, with its pitting resistance equivalent (PREN=35.4) far exceeding that of 304 (PREN=18.4). In a 40% CaCl₂ solution tested at 100°C, 2205 exhibited stress corrosion cracking resistance of >1,000 hours, while 304 failed in just 47 hours. In seawater environments, 304 is susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion, while 2205 exhibits long-term stability.

Tests in a 20% H₂SO₄ solution at 60°C showed that the corrosion rate of 2205 was only 0.021 g/(m²·h), while that of 304 was as high as 57. g/(m²·h). This makes 2205 an ideal choice for chemical media such as acetic acid and formic acid.

2205 outperforms 304 in terms of resistance to intergranular corrosion, wear corrosion, and fatigue corrosion. Especially in sulfur-containing oil and gas fields (where H₂S/CO₂ coexist), its corrosion rate is much lower than that of carbon steel.
