Inconel Alloy 625 plate is a popular nickel-based superalloy known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, high strength, and versatility in various demanding applications, including aerospace, chemical processing, and marine engineering. ASTM B443 UNS N06625 is available in two grades: Grade 1 and Grade 2. Let's delve into each grade separately before comparing them:

 

Inconel Alloy 625 Grade 1:

  • Alloy 625 Grade 1 is the standard grade and the most widely used form of the alloy.
  • It is characterized by its excellent resistance to corrosion in a wide range of environments, including oxidizing and reducing conditions.
  • Grade 1 exhibits high tensile strength and excellent fatigue strength, making it suitable for applications requiring structural integrity under demanding conditions.
  • This grade is often utilized in chemical processing, aerospace, marine engineering, and oil and gas industries for components such as tubing, piping, valves, and heat exchangers.
  • Grade 1 of Alloy 625 sheet is typically supplied in the annealed condition, the minimum annealing temperature is 1600F (871degC)offering good formability and weldability.

 

Inconel Alloy 625 Grade 2:

  • Alloy 625 Grade 2 offers similar chemical composition and mechanical properties to Grade 1 but with tighter controls on certain elements.
  • It is designed to provide improved resistance to intergranular corrosion in high-temperature applications, particularly in environments containing sulfur compounds.
  • Grade 2 is often preferred for applications where enhanced resistance to corrosion-induced cracking is required, such as in steam generator tubes, reactor vessels, and combustion zone components.
  • Solution Annealed: whereas for Grade 2 minimum annealing temperature is now 2000F (1093degC).
