Properties of AISI 321 AMS 5510 Plate Sheet and Strip

AISI 321 AMS 5510 Sheet

AISI 321 (AMS 5510) is a stainless steel grade known for its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in high-temperature environments. AMS 5510 is a specification that describes the requirements for stainless steel plate, sheet, and strip that fall under the AISI 321 category.

Key Properties of AISI 321 AMS 5510 Plate, Sheet, And Strip:

3. AISI 321 AMS 5510 Sheet Physical Properties:

The density of SUS321 material is 7.93 g/cm3. Its thermal conductivity is 16.3 W/m-K, and its coefficient of thermal expansion is 16.5 µm/m-K.

4. Alloy 321 Stainless Steel Plate Corrosion Resistance:

AISI 321 exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion, especially in harsh environments that contain strong acids and bases. EN 1.4541 aisi 321 offers excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, especially after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range (800-1500°F or 427-816°C).

5. 321 Stainless Steel Sheet Heat Resistance:

ASTM A240 type 321 maintains its strength and corrosion resistance even at elevated temperatures. The titanium addition stabilizes the material against chromium carbide formation during welding or high-temperature exposure. AISI 321 AMS 5510 has excellent high temperature resistance. The 321 stainless steel sheet material's heat resistance depends on the specific application conditions, but generally performs well in the 800°F (~427°C) to 1500°F (~816°C) range.

6. ASME SA 240 321 Plate Weldability:

321 annealed stainless steel is easily welded using common welding methods. It is often used in applications where post-weld annealing is not practical or possible. AISI 321 AMS 5510 sheet can be welded using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW, also known as TIG welding) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW, also known as MIG welding)

7.AISI 321 Material Machinability:

AISI 321 is easy to machine using conventional machining techniques. However, it is important to use proper tooling and cutting speeds to prevent work hardening.

8. Type 321 Stainless Steel Plate Applications:

Commonly ss 321 plate used in aircraft exhaust systems, manifolds, jet engine parts, and chemical processing equipment due to its combination of high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance.
