321 Seamless Welded Hydraulic Tubing | AMS 5557 AMS 5576 Datasheet

321 stainless steel Composition:
Alloy 321 / UNS S32100 / 1.4547 stainless steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy, distinguished by the addition of titanium. Its chemical composition typically comprises 17-19% chromium, 9-12% nickel, 0.08% carbon, and 5 times the amount of carbon in the form of titanium. This titanium addition offers stabilization against chromium carbide precipitation, thereby mitigating sensitization and intergranular corrosion at elevated temperatures.
321 Stainless Steel Properties:
- Corrosion Resistance: Exhibits excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments, including organic acids, oxidizing agents, and high-temperature steam. This corrosion resistance makes it suitable for hydraulic applications in chemical processing, marine environments, and aerospace.
- High Temperature Performance: 321 stainless steel pipe maintains its mechanical properties at temperatures up to 900°C (1652°F), making it ideal for hydraulic systems operating in elevated temperature environments, such as steam turbines and exhaust systems.
- Weldability: Offers good weldability, allowing for seamless integration into hydraulic systems without compromising structural integrity. This weldability facilitates the fabrication of complex hydraulic components and assemblies.
Manufacturing Standards (AMS 5557 and AMS 5576):
AISI 321 seamless welded hydraulic tubing adheres to stringent manufacturing standards, notably AMS 5557 and AMS 5576, set forth by the Aerospace Materials Specifications (AMS) Committee. Key aspects of these standards include:
- Dimensional Tolerances: Defines the permissible dimensional variations in the tubing's outer diameter, wall thickness, and length, guaranteeing precision and uniformity in fabrication.
- Surface Finish: Prescribes the surface finish requirements, such as smoothness and cleanliness, to minimize friction and facilitate fluid flow within the hydraulic system.
- Testing and Certification: Mandates rigorous testing procedures, including mechanical testing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and material analysis, to verify compliance with performance specifications and certify the tubing's quality and integrity.
- AMS5576M: Steel, Corrosion- and Heat-Resistant, Welded Tubing 18Cr - 10.5Ni - 0.40Ti (321) Solution Heat Treated. This specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant steel in the form of welded tubing.
- AMS5557K: Steel, Corrosion- and Heat-Resistant, Seamless or Welded Hydraulic Tubing 18.5Cr - 10.5Ni - 0.40Ti (SAE 30321) Solution Heat Treated. This specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant steel in the form of seamless or welded and drawn tubing.
