Difference Between Inconel 800 And Incoloy 800
Inconel 800 has higher yield and tensile strength, can withstand higher temperatures(1100°C ) than Incoloy 800, Inconel 800 is also more expensive than Incoloy 800 due to its higher nickel content.
Inconel 800 and Incoloy 800 Composition and Properties:
Inconel 800 is an alloy that is composed primarily of nickel, chromium, and iron, with small amounts of copper, titanium, and aluminum. It is highly resistant to oxidation, corrosion, and high-temperature environments and is often used in applications that require high strength and durability. Inconel 800 can withstand temperatures up to 1100°C and has a high creep rupture strength, making it ideal for use in gas turbines, petrochemical plants, and other high-temperature industrial applications.
Incoloy 800 is also a nickel-chromium alloy, but it has the addition of small amounts of carbon, manganese, and silicon. DIN 1.4876 material is designed for exposure to high-temperature environments and resists oxidation and carburization up to 816°C. Incoloy 800 tube is also known for its excellent resistance to corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in aqueous environments, making it suitable for use in chemical processing plants, nuclear power plants, and other similar industries.
Inconel 800 and Incoloy 800 Mechanical Properties
1. Tensile Strength:
Inconel 800: Typically possesses a tensile strength in the range of 600-800 MPa.
1.4876 Incoloy 800: Generally exhibits a tensile strength within the range of 550-700 MPa.
2. Yield Strength:
Inconel 800: Features a yield strength ranging from 240-310 MPa.
Incoloy 800: Displays a yield strength typically falling between 210-270 MPa.
3. Elongation at Break:
Inconel 800: Offers an elongation at break of approximately 30-40%.
Incoloy 800: Demonstrates an elongation at break within the range of 35-45%.
4. Hardness:
Inconel 800: Typically characterized by a hardness of around 150-180 HB (Brinell hardness).
Incoloy 800: Commonly features a hardness falling between 140-170 HB.
Inconel 800 and Incoloy 800 Physical Characteristics:
In terms of appearance, Inconel 800 and Incoloy 800 are very similar, with both alloys having a silvery-white color and a glossy finish. However, there are some differences in their physical properties. Inconel 800 is denser than Incoloy 800, with a density of 7.94 g/cm³ compared to Incoloy 800's density of 7.85 g/cm³. Inconel 800 also has a higher melting point of 1393°C, whereas Incoloy 800 has a melting point of 1350-1400°C.
Cost
Inconel 800 is also more expensive than Incoloy 800 due to its higher nickel content, which improves its corrosion resistance in highly corrosive environments.
Mechanical & High-Temperature Properties
Incoloy 800 (UNS N08800): Optimized for general corrosion and service temperatures up to 816°C (1500°F).
Incoloy 800H / 800HT (UNS N08810 / N08811): Solution-annealed at higher temperatures to form coarse grains, significantly increasing creep rupture strength for continuous service above 600°C to 1100°C.
