What is the difference between S32205 and S31803?

S31803 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe

Both S32205 and S31803 are duplex stainless steel grades, but they differ slightly in composition and properties. S32205, also known as 2205, has a higher nitrogen content than S31803. The nitrogen content in S32205 is typically about 0.14-0.20%, while the nitrogen content in S31803 is about 0.08-0.20%. The higher nitrogen content in S32205 improves its mechanical properties such as yield strength and corrosion resistance.

Here are some key differences between the S32205 and S31803:
1. Corrosion resistance: The corrosion resistance of duplex 2205 pipe is generally better than that of S31803, especially in an environment containing chloride, acid and hydrogen sulfide. The higher chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen contents in S32205 enhance its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
2. Strength: Due to the higher nitrogen content, S32205 generally has higher mechanical strength than the UNS S31803 pipe. This higher strength can be beneficial in applications requiring greater durability and load-carrying capacity.
3. Weldability: Both S32205 and S31803 have good weldability. However, the higher nitrogen content of S32205 may improve weldability and reduce susceptibility to solidification cracking during welding.
