Difference Between SS 310 and SS310S
SS 310 contains no more than 0.25% carbon, while 310S has a maximum of 0.08% carbon. S31008 is optimized for better weldability and is less susceptible to carbide precipitation.

1. UNS S31008 (SS 310S Stainless Steel Tube):
- Low carbon version: S31008 is a lower carbon version of S31000. Its carbon content is up to about 0.08%.
- Better weldability: The reduced carbon content makes it less susceptible to sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation), which is a common problem in high temperature applications and can cause intergranular corrosion. This makes alloy 310s more suitable for welding applications.
- High temperature resistance: Maintains good oxidation resistance up to 1100°C (2012°F).
2. UNS S31000 (SS 310 Stainless Steel):
- Higher Carbon Content: S31000 has a slightly higher carbon content (up to about 0.25%).
- High temperature performance: Alloy 310 can withstand slightly higher temperatures, maintaining mechanical integrity and oxidation resistance in continuous use up to 1150°C (2100°F).
