stainless steel 347h High-Temperature Strength

The higher carbon content and stabilizing effect of niobium give 347H superior creep strength and stress-rupture resistance compared to 304H and even 321H in sustained high-temperature environments (typically above 500°C). Creep refers to the slow plastic deformation of a material over time under high temperature and constant stress. 347H resists this deformation better, allowing thinner walls to withstand the same pressure when designing high-temperature, high-pressure pipelines, thereby reducing system weight and cost.

ASTM A312 UNS S34709 Pipe Corrosion Resistance

• Intergranular Corrosion: The niobium element in 347H has a much stronger affinity for carbon than chromium. It preferentially combines with carbon to form stable niobium carbide (NbC), locking the chromium in solid solution. This effectively prevents the formation of chromium-depleted zones and gives 347H exceptional resistance to intergranular corrosion.

 

• Oxidation: At high temperatures, 347H forms a dense and strongly adherent protective chromium oxide film on its surface, effectively resisting further oxidation and scale formation. The maximum continuous operating temperature is approximately 900°C.

 

• Acid Corrosion: It exhibits good corrosion resistance in a variety of acidic media, such as nitric acid, phosphoric acid, and organic acids. However, its performance in reducing acids (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid) is more limited and requires evaluation based on the specific environment.

TP347H tube Machinability and Weldability

As an austenitic stainless steel, 347H pipe exhibits excellent toughness, ductility, and formability, allowing for cold bending and forming. It also exhibits excellent weldability, compatible with all standard fusion welding methods. Because it is stabilized with niobium, post-weld annealing is generally not required, avoiding the sensitization temperature range and providing excellent corrosion resistance to welded joints.
