S32205 Duplex Stainless Steel Plate is stronger and tougher than standard austenitic steel. The composition of Duplex 2205 Plate contains 22% Chromium, 3% Molybdenum and 5% Nickel. SS 2205 Stainless Steel is more resistant to corrosion and high pressure than 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steel plates. It is more resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at 150°C. ASTM A240 Gr 2205 Plate is a suitable alternative to austenitic stainless steel, especially in marine environments. S32205 VS S31803
The chemical composition of both S31803 and S32205 contains 22% chromium, 4.5%~6.5% nickel, and 3%~3.5% molybdenum. The improved version of SAF 2205 has stricter limits on the range of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen, and has a lower carbon content than S31803 steel plate. In comparison, 2205 stainless steel generally has higher strength and better corrosion resistance.
