S316LN is a low-carbon, high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steel. Nitrogen is added to SUS316L. This "low carbon + high nitrogen" design significantly enhances the material's strength, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature stability. ASTM A240 ss316ln plate Corrosion Resistance
S316LN performs exceptionally well in chemical environments, particularly in chloride environments. Molybdenum and nitrogen work synergistically to significantly enhance resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
Research has shown that in acidic media containing Cl⁻ and NO₃⁻, as Cl⁻ decreases and NO₃⁻ increases, the passivation range of S316LN widens, the corrosion rate decreases, and corrosion resistance improves.
Cl⁻ destroys the passive film, while NO₃⁻ promotes its formation and repair. This characteristic makes S316LN outstanding in industrial media such as fertilizers, papermaking, and pharmaceuticals.
Stainless Steel 316LN Plate Mechanical and Physical Properties
S316LN stainless steel offers a balance of high strength and good toughness. Its tensile strength is ≥520 MPa and its yield strength is ≥190 MPa, both exceeding the ≥175 MPa of 316L, while its elongation is ≥40%. The high nitrogen content increases S316LN's strength by over 30% compared to 316L, and its performance remains stable even at high temperatures (550°C).
In terms of physical properties, S316LN has a density of 7.93–7.99 g/cm³, a coefficient of thermal expansion of 12×10⁻⁶/°C (20–100°C), and a thermal conductivity of 16.3 W/m·K. Its non-magnetic properties make it particularly suitable for use in specific chemical environments.

ASTM A240 TP316LN plate Diverse Applications in Chemical Production
UNS S31653 Hot Rolled Plates in Petrochemicals and Energy
In the petrochemical industry, S316LN is widely used in equipment such as reactors, storage tanks, and heat exchangers. These devices are often exposed to high temperatures, high pressures, and corrosive media, placing extremely high demands on the material's corrosion resistance and strength.
The fertilizer industry, particularly urea production, utilizes S316LN extensively for equipment and pipelines requiring Hugh's tests. Its ultra-low carbon properties effectively resist intergranular corrosion, extending equipment life.
SS 316LN Plain Plates in Fine Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals
S316LN is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry and other chemical equipment, pressure vessels, and food processing equipment. It withstands CIP/SIP (Clean in Place/Sterile in Place) cleaning processes, meeting aseptic production requirements.
SS 1.4429 Cold Rolled Plate in Special Chemical Environments
In highly corrosive environments such as those involving sulfuric acid and phosphate fertilizers, traditional stainless steel often struggles to meet long-term operational requirements.
SS 316LN CR Plates, with its optimized composition, demonstrates superior adaptability to these harsh environments compared to conventional stainless steels. Especially with increasingly stringent environmental requirements and the increasing presence of chloride ions in chemical equipment operating environments, S316LN's pitting corrosion resistance becomes even more valuable.
