Alloy 20 Chemical Composition
The most common chemical compositions of Carpenter 20 metal are as follows:

- Chromium (Cr): 19% – 21%
- Molybdenum (Mo): 2% – 3%
- Copper (Cu): 3% – 4%
- Carbon (C): 0.07% maximum
- Silicon (Si): up to 1%
- Manganese (Mn): up to 2%
Carpenter Alloy 20 Cb-3 Corrosion Resistance
Alloy 20 offers excellent corrosion resistance when exposed to various acids including sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid and alkaline solutions. Machinists should use sharp tools when machining this alloy because it has a higher carbon content than other stainless steel alloys, such as 304 stainless or 316 stainless.
