6Mo Stainless Steel (UNS S31254) is a super austenitic stainless steel with up to 6% molybdenum and increased chromium and nitrogen contents. Distinguished from 316 grade stainless steel, it has increased resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion and high strength. High levels of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen make 254 SMO (6 Moly) suitable for use in high chloride environments such as brackish water, seawater, pulp mills, bleach plants and other high chloride process streams.
Alloy 6mo stainless steel has excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, allows cold forming of tubes and can be used without re-annealing in tests up to 120°C.
