ASTM B161 Standard for Nickel Seamless Pipe and Tube

About ASTM B161 Standard

ASTM B161 is a standard specification formulated by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) for nickel seamless pipe and tube. ASTM B161 specification covers nickel (UNS N02200, nickel 200, 2.4066, 2.4060) and low-carbon nickel (UNS N02201, nickel 201, 2.4061, 2.4068) in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube.

This ASME SB161 standard specifies the manufacturing process, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and tolerances of nickel seamless pipe and tube. The manufacturing process includes hot or cold worked, annealed, normalized, or stress-relieved conditions. The chemical composition of the nickel alloy should conform to the specified limits of carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, iron, copper, titanium, aluminum, columbium, and tungsten. The mechanical properties include tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness.

ASTM B161 sizes and dimensions

The dimensions and tolerances of nickel seamless pipe and tube should comply with the standard specifications. The size range for seamless nickel pipes is from 1/8 to 12 inches in outside diameter and from 0.035 to 0.875 inches in wall thickness. The size range for seamless nickel tubes is from 1/8 to 5 inches in outside diameter and from 0.015 to 0.500 inches in wall thickness.
