ASTM B162 Nickel 200 Plate Sheet

Nickel 200 plate sheets are widely used in various industries due to their excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength. These sheets are manufactured according to the ASTM B162 standard, which specifies the requirements for nickel and nickel alloy plate, sheet, and strip.

ASTM B162 Nickel 200 Plate Production Process

1. Raw Material Selection:

The process begins with the selection of high-quality raw materials, primarily nickel with a minimum purity of 99.0%. The raw materials are inspected for compliance with chemical composition and other specifications.

2. Melting and Alloying:

The selected nickel is melted in a furnace. Alloying elements may be added to achieve specific properties or to meet the requirements of ASTM B162. The molten metal is carefully alloyed to achieve the desired composition.

3. Casting:

The molten nickel alloy is cast into large ingots or slabs. The casting process may involve various techniques such as continuous casting or traditional ingot casting.

4. Hot Rolling:

The cast nickel alloy is hot-rolled into 2.4066 alloy 200 plates or sheets. Hot rolling helps achieve the desired thickness and shape. The ni 200 material is reduced in thickness through a series of rolling mills while it is at an elevated temperature.

5. Annealing:

The hot-rolled 2.4060 nickel 201 plates or sheets undergo an annealing process. Nickel 201 sheet annealing temperatures typically range from 704°C (1300°F) to 871°C (1600°F). This temperature range helps relieve stress, improve grain structure, and improve the material's mechanical properties.

6. Cold Rolling (Optional):

In some cases, the ASTM B162 UNS n02200 material may undergo cold rolling to further reduce thickness and improve surface finish. Cold rolling also enhances dimensional accuracy.

7. Surface Treatment:

The nickel alloy 200 plates or sheets may undergo surface treatments such as pickling or passivation to remove oxides and scales formed during the manufacturing process. This improves the surface finish and corrosion resistance.

8. Custom Cutting and Custom Sizing

Utilizing precision plasma, laser, and waterjet cutting machinery, the finished sheets and plates are trimmed exactly to the dimensions specified by the client, eliminating material waste for your engineering projects.

9. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) & Quality Control

To guarantee flawless field performance, our internal quality control team conducts mandatory compliance audits including:

  • Dimensional Verification: Ultrasonic measurement of thickness tolerances and edge flatness.
  • Mechanical Testing: Yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation testing according to ASTM B162.
  • Non-Destructive Evaluation: Complete Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) to catch subsurface flaws.

10. Packaging and Shipping:

The final step involves packaging the ASME SB 162 Nickel 200 plates or sheets securely to prevent damage during transportation. The nickel 200 sheet material is then shipped to customers or distributors.

Industrial Applications of UNS N02200 Sheets & Plates

Chemical Processing: Production equipment for handling sodium hydroxide, synthetic fibers, and caustic alkalis.

Food Processing: Specialized machinery demanding absolute purity and zero metallic product contamination.

Marine & Aerospace: Saltwater piping liners, missile components, and electronic device housings.

It's important to note that specific manufacturing processes may vary between different suppliers. Manufacturers follow ASTM B162 specifications and may implement additional steps or variations based on their equipment, expertise, and the specific requirements of their customers.
