Duplex Stainless Steel UNS S32205 / 2205 / F60 / 1.4410

Duplex 2205 stainless steel (ferritic and austenitic) resists stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion and general corrosion. High yield strength, twice that of standard austenitic grades. S31803 grade stainless steel went through several refinements to become UNS S32205.

Duplex 2205 Available Forms

  • ASTM A240 UNS S32750 Plate
  • ASTM A276/479 Bars, rods
  • ASTM A789/790 Pipe Tubes (welded and seamless)
  • ASTM A182/815 F60 Fittings: Elbows, Tees, Stub Ends, Returns, Caps, Crossheads, Reducers, Couplings, Fittings, etc.

Duplex 1.4410 Mechanical Properties

  • Yield Strength: ≥450 MPa
  • Tensile Strength: ≥620 MPa
  • Elongation: ≥25%

Alloy 2205 Weldability

A variety of welding methods can be used, including TIG, MIG and manual arc welding.

Heat Resistance

2205 grade material has high resistance to oxidation, the grade performs well at temperatures up to 300°C.

UNS S32205 VS S31803 S32750

  • S31803: S32205 is an upgraded version of S31803 with a higher nitrogen content and improved corrosion resistance.
  • 2507: 2507 is a super duplex stainless steel with higher corrosion resistance and strength, but is more expensive and not suitable for cryogenic environments.

2205 Material Heat Treatment

Solution treatment (annealing) at temperatures between 1020 - 1100°C followed by rapid cooling.

Applications

  • Oil and gas exploration
  • Transportation, storage and chemical processing
  • High chloride and marine environments
  • Paper machines, wine tanks, pulp and paper digesters
