In all concentrations of hydrochloric acid, Hastelloy's annual corrosion rate is less than 0.1mm, and even in boiling 70% sulfuric acid, the corrosion rate is only 0.2mm/year. In a chloride ion environment, its pitting resistance is more than 3 times higher than that of 316L stainless steel, and it can effectively resist the erosion of marine and industrial chloride media. ​

The tensile strength in the annealed state is less than 1200N/mm², the low-temperature impact toughness at -50℃ is 80J/cm², and the long-term service strength retention rate at 600℃ is more than 85%. However, during cold forming, the hardness increases by about 20% for every 10% increase in deformation, and the deformation rate needs to be controlled or intermediate solution treatment needs to be performed.​

Hastelloy B3 has a melting point of 1418℃ and can maintain a stable structure and anti-oxidation performance below 700℃. In petrochemical high-temperature reaction equipment, its service life is 2-3 times longer than that of ordinary alloys.

The low carbon content allows b3 to be used in the welded condition, with good overall forming and welding characteristics. It can be forged or otherwise hot worked by holding at 2250°F long enough to bring the entire part up to temperature.
