Hot Rolled Process of Inconel 601 Seamless Pipe

Inconel 601 Seamless Pipe

Hot rolling is a process that involves heating the Inconel 601 billets at extremely high temperatures until they become malleable. The billets are then rolled into seamless pipes using a series of rollers. The hot rolling process is one of the most cost-effective ways to manufacture high-quality Inconel 601 seamless pipes.

Hot Rolled Process for Inconel 601 Seamless Pipe:

1. Billet Preparation:
Begin with high-quality Inconel 601 billets or pre-existing seamless tubes.

2. Heating:
The billets are heated to a suitable temperature, typically within the austenitic temperature range, to facilitate plastic deformation during subsequent rolling.

3. Piercing:
The heated billets are pierced to create a hollow tube. This process is often achieved using a rotary piercing method.

4. Rotary Piercing:
In rotary piercing, the heated billet is rotated while a mandrel is inserted, creating a central hole. This initial hollow shell is the starting point for the Inconel 601 seamless pipe.

5. Extension and Reduction:
The pierced billet is then elongated and reduced in diameter through a series of elongation and reduction processes. This may involve multiple passes through a series of pilger or elongation mills.

6. Heating and Reheating:
Intermediate heating or reheating stages may be necessary to maintain the ASTM B167 Inconel 601 seamless pipes ductility and optimize the reduction process.

7. Sizing:
The Inconel 601 UNS N06601 tube is further sized and shaped through additional passes in sizing mills to achieve the desired outer diameter and wall thickness.

8. Cooling:
The hot-rolled seamless pipe is then cooled to room temperature. The cooling process may involve controlled cooling to enhance material properties.

9. Straightening and Cutting:
The hot-rolled 2.4851 alloy 601 pipe may undergo straightening to achieve the required straightness, followed by cutting to the specified lengths.

10. Quality Control:
The final hot-rolled ASTM B163 Inconel 601 seamless tubes undergo rigorous quality control measures, including dimensional inspection, visual inspection, and potentially non-destructive testing.

Advantages of Hot Rolling Seamless Pipe :

  • Efficient process for producing large quantities of seamless pipes.
  • Improves mechanical properties and grain structure.
  • Provides a wide range of sizes and dimensions.
