Alloy 800 is a high-grade, heat-resistant alloy based on nickel, iron, and chromium, with a carefully designed chemical composition to achieve an optimal balance of properties. This alloy typically contains 30-35% nickel, 19-23% chromium, and at least 39.5% iron. Small but critical additions include aluminum (0.15-0.60%), titanium (0.15-0.60%), and carbon (≤0.1%). HT PIPE is a 1.4876 nickel alloy 800 sheet supplier with 15+ export experience. Contact us for more information and quotes for free!
Materials Challenges in the Oil and Gas Industry
The oil and gas industry places extremely stringent demands on material performance. Equipment and operating environments frequently must simultaneously withstand high temperatures, high pressures, corrosive media, and complex mechanical stresses. From oil and gas extraction thousands of meters underground to the complex surface refining process, materials must withstand temperatures ranging from sub-zero to over 1,000 degrees Celsius, while also resisting corrosion from hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, chlorides, and various organic acids.
Incoloy 800 plate in Oil and Gas Well Pipelines and High-Temperature and High-Pressure Equipment
In deep-seated oil and gas production, downhole piping and equipment must withstand extremely high temperatures and pressures. Alloy 800 is used in the manufacture of oil and gas well piping, casing, and other downhole equipment. With the development of unconventional resources such as shale gas and tight oil and gas, the production environment has become increasingly harsh, making Alloy 800's resistance to sulfidation and hydrogen embrittlement particularly valuable.
In high-pressure oil and gas transmission systems, incoloy alloy 800 is used in the manufacture of gathering and transportation pipelines, valves, and fittings. These components must not only withstand the impact of internal high-pressure fluids but also resist corrosion from the external environment (such as soil and atmospheric corrosion).

Drilling equipment components that come into contact with high-temperature oil and gas, such as drill string components, drilling tools, and logging equipment casings, are also often manufactured using Alloy n08800. These components may be subject to unexpected thermal shock and mechanical stress during operation, requiring the material to possess both high strength and good toughness.
During the production phase, Alloy 800 is often used in downhole heater casings, heat exchangers, and oil-gas separation equipment. In particular, in heavy oil production, high-temperature steam is injected into the reservoir to reduce crude oil viscosity, requiring the associated equipment to withstand frequent thermal cycling and high-temperature corrosion.

In the oil refining and chemical processing sectors, Alloy 800 is even more widely used. It is commonly used in the manufacture of key equipment such as cracking furnace tubes, reformer tubes, heat exchangers, and reactors.
In ethylene cracking units, the cracking furnaces heat petroleum fractions to temperatures exceeding 800°C to produce olefins. These cracking furnace tubes must not only withstand extremely high temperatures but also resist corrosion from the hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons produced during the cracking process. Alloy 800 (particularly the 800H and 800HT variants) demonstrates excellent carburization resistance and high-temperature creep strength under these conditions, ensuring long-term, stable operation of the unit.
In catalytic cracking units, incoloy 800 is used to manufacture catalyst regenerators, cyclone separators, and flue gas ducting. These components are exposed to high-temperature, catalyst-containing flue gases and suffer severe wear and corrosion.

In oil and gas processing plants, Alloy 800 is used to manufacture natural gas pretreatment units, sour gas handling equipment, and compressor train components. Alloy 800's resistance to sulfide stress corrosion cracking is particularly valuable, as this is one of the most common failure modes of oil and gas processing equipment.
In liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, although other materials are used for lower-temperature sections, Alloy 800 still has value in higher-temperature sections such as pretreatment, compression, and heat exchange systems, particularly when processing natural gas feedstocks containing corrosive impurities.
