Is Alloy 825 Seamless Pipe or Welded Pipe Better?

Alloy 825 Seamless Pipe  has no welds, has better pressure bearing capacity, and is more expensive. Incoloy 825 Welded Pipe is more suitable for large diameter applications and is less expensive.

Alloy 825 Seamless Pipe

Advantages:
Alloy 825 Seamless Pipe  is manufactured without welds and is rolled by piercing heated billets. The absence of welds minimizes weak points and reduces susceptibility to localized corrosion such as pitting or crevice corrosion. Ideal for high pressure and high temperature applications.

Disadvantages:
Cost: ASME SB 423 UNS N08825 Seamless Pipe is more expensive to produce because of the complex manufacturing process that involves piercing a solid billet or ingot. The size range is limited, especially for large diameter steel pipes, which is more challenging and more expensive.

Seamless Incoloy Alloy 825 UNS N08825 Pipe Tube Applications:

  • Oil and Gas (for high pressure systems)
  • Chemical Processing (handling corrosive fluids)
  • Power Generation (for heat exchangers and boilers)

Alloy 825 Welded Pipe

Advantages:
Incoloy 825 welded pipes are generally more affordable because they are made by welding flat metal plates or strips, which are less expensive. Welded pipes can produce larger diameter pipes, and the manufacturing process is faster and more efficient.

Disadvantages:
Weld seam fragility, if not handled properly, the weld seam can be a potential weak point, and welded pipes require strict non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure welding quality and integrity.

Alloy 825 UNS N08825 Applications:

  • Construction (for structural purposes)
  • Low pressure fluid delivery
  • Non-critical industrial applications
