Monel 400 plate application
Marine Propulsion Systems: Commonly used in the manufacture of key components such as propeller shafts, pump shafts, rudder shafts, and stern shaft seals. These components are exposed to seawater for extended periods, requiring the material to possess excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and wear resistance.
Seawater Piping and Valve Systems: Widely used in the manufacture of pipes, valves, pump bodies, elbows, and fasteners for ship seawater cooling systems. Its resistance to flowing seawater corrosion and cavitation erosion far surpasses that of ordinary stainless steel, ensuring long-term smooth operation and reliable sealing of piping systems.
Offshore Platforms and Underwater Equipment: It is used in offshore oil drilling platforms, subsea oil pipelines, fasteners for mooring systems, and hydraulic piping and sensor housings for underwater robots (ROVs). Its ability to withstand high pressure, high salinity environments, and hydrogen sulfide corrosion is crucial.
Seawater Desalination and Treatment Equipment: It is an ideal material for the manufacture of seawater desalination equipment (such as heat exchange tubes for multi-stage flash evaporation (MSF) processes), evaporators, and heat exchanger tube sheets. Its resistance to high seawater temperatures, chloride ion corrosion, and excellent thermal conductivity guarantee its performance.
Marine Heat Exchangers: Used in the manufacture of ship central coolers, oil coolers, and charge air coolers (CACs). Its high thermal conductivity and resistance to seawater corrosion ensure heat exchange efficiency and equipment life.

Welding Process of monel n04400 plate
Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG/GTAW) or metal arc welding (MAW) is recommended, using specialized welding consumables (such as ERNiCu-7 wire or ENiCu-7 electrodes). Backside argon shielding must be maintained during welding to prevent backside oxidation of the weld. Before welding, thoroughly clean the groove and sides of the groove from oil and moisture, and control heat input to avoid overheating that can lead to coarsening of grains or thermal cracking.
Hot and Cold Working of alloy 400 sheet
Monel 400 exhibits a pronounced tendency to work harden. Cold forming (such as bending and flanging) may require high working forces, and intermediate annealing (typically between 760-980°C) is recommended to relieve stress and restore plasticity. Hot working temperatures are generally recommended between 1150-950°C.
Usage Precautions of alloy 400 plate
Avoid highly oxidizing environments: Corrosion resistance is poor in highly oxidizing media such as high-temperature concentrated sulfuric acid and nitric acid, requiring evaluation or selection of more suitable materials.
Prevent high-temperature sulfur corrosion: Sulfur embrittlement may occur in high-temperature (e.g., above 371°C) sulfur-containing environments, requiring careful environmental control.
Concerns about stress corrosion: While excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking is demonstrated, concern remains under extreme conditions.
