EN 1.4550 stainless steel plate, also known by its UNS designation S34700 or simply as 347 stainless steel, is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel containing columbium (niobium). This addition of columbium helps to enhance its resistance to intergranular corrosion. Predominantly iron, with a typical composition including approximately 17-19% chromium, 9-12% nickel, and 0.8-1.2% columbium (niobium). Superior resistance to intergranular corrosion, especially after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800–1500°F (427–816°C).
