Chemical composition of Super duplex stainless steel 1.4462 Pipe

S31803 belongs to the second generation of duplex stainless steel (Duplex Stainless Steel). Its chemical composition is 22% chromium (Cr), 3% molybdenum (Mo), 5-6% nickel (Ni) and 0.15-0.25% nitrogen (N) as core elements.

Manufacturing process of S31803 Pipe

Forming process of duplex 2205

The deformation amount needs to be controlled during cold rolling or hot extrusion to avoid phase imbalance due to excessive processing. The hot forming temperature is usually controlled at 1050-1150℃, and rapid cooling is required after forming to maintain the two-phase structure.

Welding technology of Duplex S31803

It is recommended to use TIG (tungsten inert gas shielded welding) or SAW (submerged arc welding), and use ER2209 or similar duplex steel welding materials. During welding, the heat input should be controlled within the range of 0.5-2.5 kJ/mm, and the interlayer temperature should be strictly below 150℃ to avoid the precipitation of harmful intermetallic phases (such as σ phase). After welding, local solution annealing is recommended to restore corrosion resistance.

Heat treatment of UNS S31803

Solution annealing needs to be kept at 1020-1100℃ and then quenched in water to ensure a balanced ratio of austenite and ferrite and eliminate residual stress.
