S31803 pipe has outstanding overall corrosion resistance, especially in corrosive environments containing chlorides and hydrogen sulfide. Its resistance to stress corrosion cracking is superior to that of ordinary austenitic stainless steels such as 304L and 316L. At the same time, the duplex structure and low carbon content give it good resistance to intergranular corrosion. The heat-affected zone after welding can re-form the austenitic phase, reducing the risk of carbide and nitride precipitation at grain boundaries.

The yield strength of S31803 pipe is approximately twice that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, typically reaching 400-550 MPa. This high strength allows for thinner pipe wall thicknesses in design, thus reducing equipment weight and cost. The pipe also possesses good impact toughness and can withstand temperatures ranging from -50°F to 600°F (approximately -45℃ to 315℃). Applications involving welded structures outside this temperature range require careful evaluation.

S31803 pipe has good weldability, requiring no preheating before welding and usually no subsequent heat treatment. Recommended welding methods include manual metal arc welding (MMA/SMAW) and gas shielded arc welding, with tungsten inert gas welding (TIG/GTAW) being the preferred method. During welding, it is recommended to control the heat input to 0.5-2.5 kJ/mm, and the interpass temperature should be below 150℃ (300°F).
