During welding or high-temperature use, carbon is easily combined with chromium and precipitated at the grain boundary to form a chromium-poor area, causing corrosion. The niobium element's affinity with carbon far exceeds that of chromium, and it preferentially forms stable niobium carbide (NbC), effectively "locking" carbon atoms and preventing chromium carbide from precipitating, thereby protecting the uniform distribution of chromium elements and maintaining strong corrosion resistance.

Under continuous high temperature, the metal will undergo slow plastic deformation (creep). S347H has significantly better high-temperature strength (such as creep rupture strength) than 304H/316H through optimized composition and heat treatment.
