Standard Specification for Seamless Nickel and Nickel-Cobalt Alloy Pipe and Tube
ASTM B622 ASME SB 622 specification covers seamless pipe and tube of nickel and nickel-cobalt alloys (UNS N10665, UNS N10675, UNS N10276, UNS N06002, UNS N06022, UNS N06200, UNS N08031, UNS N06030). ASTM B622 UNS N06022 has a wide range of applications and can be used in petrochemical, chemical, aerospace, electric power, pharmaceutical, fertilizer, and other fields.
Key Industrial Alloys Under ASTM B622:
Alloy C276 (UNS N10276): Famous for its universal resistance to aggressive chemicals, including wet chlorine gas, hypochlorites, chlorine dioxide, and strong ferric/cupric chloride solutions.
Alloy C22 (UNS N06022): Provides superior resistance to oxidizing aqueous environments, including wet chlorine and mixtures containing nitric acid or oxidizing acids with chloride ions.

ASTM B622 Standard Requirements
ASTM B622 standard contains requirements for chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment, and inspection of nickel alloy seamless pipes. ASTM B622 C22 C276 pipe and tube shall be supplied in the solution annealed and descaled condition. When atmosphere control is used, descaling is not necessary. ASTM B622 specification is limited to tubes up to and including 3.5 in. (88.9 mm) outside diameter.
ASTM B622 ASME SB622 Seamless Pipe
The product range of ASTM B622 is only seamless pipe & tube. Nickel alloy seamless pipes are pipe/tube materials without welds. ASTM B622 N10276 pipe is generally produced by cold rolling or cold drawing. Because there are no welds, it has a stronger pressure-bearing capacity than welded pipes. Due to the process, the wall thickness of the seamless pipes is generally not too thin.
Mandatory Testing and Quality Verification Criteria
ASTM B622 requires rigorous mechanical and non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify structural integrity before any pipe lot leaves the production mill.
- Chemical Analysis: A continuous heat analysis is performed to ensure the chemical limits of elements match strict regulatory margins.
- Mechanical Testing: Tension tests verify that the yield strength, tensile limits, and elongation numbers meet the minimum requirement thresholds.
- Flaring and Flattening Tests: Sections of finish-drawn tubing undergo physical deformation tests to guarantee ductility and eliminate risks of micro-fissuring or wall separation.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Each seamless pipe must undergo either Hydrostatic Testing or Eddy Current / Ultrasonic Testing over 100% of its length to identify any internal wall discontinuities or pinhole defects.

ASTM B622 seamless products are supplied according to dimensions governed by ANSI/ASME B36.19 and B36.10.
- Outside Diameter (OD) Scope: Available from 1/8" NB (Nominal Bore) up to 12" NB configurations.
- Wall Thickness Ranges: Standard Schedules include Sch 5S, Sch 10S, Sch 40S, and Sch 80S. Heavy-wall and custom thickness limits are available via cold-drawing processes.
- Dimensional Tolerances: Out-of-roundness and wall thickness variances are maintained within strict limits specified in ASTM B775 (the general requirements standard for nickel alloy pipes).
