Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 plates are two commonly used nickel-based alloy plates, which are widely used in many fields. Although they belong to the same nickel-based alloy family, they have significant differences in composition, performance and applicable scenarios. A deep understanding of these differences is of great significance for the correct selection and use of these two materials.

| Element (wt%) | Inconel 600 | Inconel 601 |
|---|---|---|
| Nickel (Ni) | ≥72% | 58-63% |
| Chromium (Cr) | 14-17% | 21-25% |
| Aluminum (Al) | ≤0.3% | 1.0-1.7% |
| Iron (Fe) | 6-10% | Balance |

UNS N06600 and UNS n06601 plate Corrosion resistance
alloy 601 and alloy 601 sheet General corrosion environment tolerance
In many conventional corrosion environments, both Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 plate show good tolerance.
601 alloy and 600 alloy sheet Chloride resistance
Inconel 601 is slightly better than Inconel 600 in resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking due to the synergistic effect of chromium and aluminum in its composition.
Incon 6601 plate Oxidation resistance
This is a significant advantage of Inconel 601 over Inconel 600. The high chromium content (21-25%) of Inconel 601 and the addition of aluminum enable it to quickly form a denser and more stable oxide film at high temperatures.

Inconel 600 plate Sulfide resistance
In sulfur-containing environments, such as those containing hydrogen sulfide and other gases in the fields of petroleum refining and coal chemical industry, Inconel 601 Plate has better resistance to sulfide corrosion than Inconel 600 due to its composition characteristics, especially the higher chromium and aluminum content.
N06601 plate and N06600 plate Thermal corrosion resistance
Inconel 601 has better metallurgical stability at high temperatures. Under high-temperature thermal cycles and thermal stresses, Inconel 601 can better maintain the stability of its organizational structure and performance, and has better thermal corrosion resistance.
High-Temperature Performance & Mechanical Limits
The deliberate inclusion of 1.0–1.7% Aluminum in ASME SB168 UNS N06601 sheet enables it to develop a highly stable, self-healing protective oxide scale at elevated temperatures. This allows it to outperform Inconel 600 in raw heat resistance.
Maximum Service Temperature: Inconel 600 is stable up to 925°C (1700°F). In contrast, Inconel 601 plate maintains outstanding structural integrity and handles continuous operating environments up to 1100°C (2012°F).
High-Temperature Tensile Strength (at 800°C): Alloy 600 delivers approximately 260 MPa, while Alloy 601 exhibits a superior mechanical strength profile of ~350 MPa.
Creep Rupture Longevity: Under continuous high-load thermal stress at 800°C, Alloy 601 provides a significantly longer creep rupture life (>5,000 hours) compared to Alloy 600 (<2,000 hours).
601 Inconel and 600 inconel sheet Fabrication & Economics Diffenence
| Factor | Inconel 600 | Inconel 601 |
|---|---|---|
| Weldability | Easy (30-45% elongation) | Controlled heat input required |
| Cold Formability | Better (lower yield strength) | Moderate (higher strength) |
| Plate Cost | Baseline | +15-20% (high Cr/Al content) |
| Replacement Cycle | 3-5 years (oxidizing env.) | 8-15 years (same conditions) |
| 5-Year TCO | ~$2.8M (illustrative) | ~$1.8M (saves $1M+) |
