ASTM A213 and ASTM A269 Standard

ASTM A213 and ASTM A269 are both standards that specify the requirements for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for various applications. While there are similarities between the two standards, there are also some differences in their scope and requirements.

Difference Between Astm A213 Vs Astm A269 Grade

ASTM A213:

Astm A213/ASME SA213 material standard specifications covers the seamless ferritic & austenitic steel boiler, super heaters and heat exchanger tubes. The process of manufacturing these tubes are seamless process and also designed in hot finished & cold finished as preferred for the customer's application demands. and austenitic stainless steel tubes with astm a213 grades fabricated in the heat treated conditions to make it perfect & well performed for the elevated temperatures. it defines in the minimum wall thickness.

ASTM A213 is the standard specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes. ASTM A213 stainless steel tubes covers different grades such as TP304, TP304L, TP316, TP316L, TP347, etc. These tubes are primarily intended for high-temperature and corrosive service environments, such as in boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers used in power plants, chemical plants, and oil refineries.

The requirements of ASTM A213 include dimensions, mechanical properties, tolerances, and testing procedures such as flattening, flaring, hardness, hydrostatic, and nondestructive electric tests. This specification covers both seamless tubes and tubes that have been welded.

ASTM A269:

Astm A269 / ASME SA269 material standard specifications covers nominal wall thickness and welded austenitic steel tubing. It Is usually used for general corrosion resistances and performing well for the low & high temperatures to successfully completion of the applications. the furnishing process of the done in the heat treated conditions to ensures the process, And for a well going way experts keep on the eye on each of the step of manufacturing. It does not define in the minimum wall thickness.

ASTM A269 is the standard specification for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for general service. ASTM A269 stainless steel tubes covers various grades such as TP304, TP304L, TP316, TP316L, TP321, etc. Unlike ASTM A213, which specifically focuses on high-temperature and corrosive service applications, ASTM A269 is more general and applies to a wider range of applications where stainless steel tubing is required.

The requirements of ASTM A269 include dimensions, mechanical properties, tolerances, and testing procedures such as flattening, flaring, hardness, hydrostatic, and nondestructive electric tests. This specification covers both seamless and welded tubes.

Differences of ASTM A213 And ASTM A269

Standard ASTM A213 ASTM A269
Basic Difference Seamless Steel Tubing Welded and Seamless Steel Tubing
Wall Thickness Mostly minimum wall thickness (0, +20%), also accept average wall thickness (+/-10%) Average wall thickness (+/-10%)
Applications Heat exchangers and Superheaters to maintain the transmission temperature of the different substances. Performs well in corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance required in elevated temperature.
