Hastelloy B2, Alloy B2, 2.4617, UNS N10665 Material

Hastelloy B2 (Alloy B2, 2.4617, UNS N10665)  materials usually have a nickel (Ni) content of residual level. The molybdenum (Mo) content is roughly between 26.0 and 30.0%, which greatly improves the alloy's ability to cope with strong reducing acids, even when the concentration of hydrochloric acid is as high as 15% or even higher. The annual corrosion depth is often less than 0.5mm, making it the best choice for industries such as chemical and hydrometallurgy. It is firmly established as a key material in high-end manufacturing fields such as chemical, petroleum, energy, and aerospace.

Physical Properties

In terms of thermal conductivity, the thermal conductivity of Hastelloy Alloy B2 is between 10.8 and 13.0 W/(m・K). Taking a shell and tube heat exchanger as an example, compared with traditional carbon steel materials, the heat transfer efficiency can be increased by about 20-30% under the same working conditions, reducing industrial energy consumption.

  • Density is about 9.24 g/cm³.
  • Thermal expansion coefficient is only 10.3×10⁻⁶/°C.

Mechanical Properties

Typical tensile strength of Hastelloy 2.4617  can reach 760 MPa, and the yield strength is about 310 MPa. Taking the high-pressure pipeline in the field of deep-sea oil and gas extraction as an example, it withstands the deep-sea high-pressure environment, and the fluid pressure in the pipe often exceeds 100 MPa, ensuring the safe transportation of oil and gas resources.

UNS N10665 Material impact toughness value (Charpy V-notch) can reach more than 150 J.

Processing and Welding

In the hot processing stage, the forging temperature of Hastelloy B2 UNS N10665 Material  is usually controlled in the range of 950-1150°C. For welding, use matching nickel-based welding materials, such as ERNiMo-7 welding wire, in a protective gas atmosphere (such as argon), strictly follow the parameter specifications of welding current 80-120 A and voltage 10-14 V.

Avoid Oxidizing Media

Nickel Alloy B2  is not resistant to oxidizing environments (such as nitric acid, free chlorine) and should be avoided under such conditions.

Temperature Control

Long-term use at high temperatures (≥315°C) may result in the formation of intermetallic phases, which may reduce the corrosion resistance of the material.
