2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel (UNS S32750) | Properties & Piping Supplier

super duplex S32750 steel pipe

2507 super duplex stainless steel belongs to the duplex stainless steel family. Super duplex stainless steels have a duplex microstructure consisting of approximately equal amounts of austenite and ferrite phases.

Containing 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel, it is also known as UNS S32750 or SAF 2507. It is known for its excellent strength and resistance to pitting, crevice, and chloride attacks. Super duplex 2507 pipe is typically used in applications where there is a high risk of corrosion and erosion, such as chemical processing, oil and gas, and marine industries.

Key Standards & Material Equivalents

Procurement teams and design engineers identify this material under several global industrial standards. Ensure your project specifications match our available inventory options:

UNS Designation: UNS S32750

EN/DIN Standard: 1.4410 (X2CrNiMoN25-7-4)

Common Forging/Piping Specs: ASTM A790, ASME SA790, ASTM A182 F53, ASTM A240

2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel Features

1. High strength: 2507 super duplex stainless steel has significantly higher strength than standard austenitic or ferritic stainless steel. This property enables it to withstand high mechanical loads and pressures.

2. Excellent corrosion resistance: 2507 super duplex stainless steel has excellent resistance to a variety of corrosive environments, including seawater, chloride-containing solutions, acids, and alkalis.

3. Enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion: The high chromium and molybdenum content in 2507 super duplex stainless steel provides excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it suitable for corrosive and chloride-rich environments.

4. Stress corrosion cracking resistance: 2507 super duplex stainless steel has high resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Mechanical & Physical Properties

One of the most cost-effective advantages of designing with 2507 Super Duplex is its mechanical strength. It yields twice the tensile strength of traditional 316L or 904L stainless steels. This allows pipeline designers to specify thinner wall thicknesses, reducing overall structural weight and cutting transportation and material costs.

Tensile Strength: ≥ 800 MPa (116 ksi)

Yield Strength (0.2% Offset): ≥ 550 MPa (80 ksi)

Elongation: ≥ 15%

Density: 7.8 g/cm³ (0.282 lb/in³)

Maximum Long-Term Service Temp: 250°C (480°F) - Higher prolonged exposure may cause phase embrittlement.

Severe-Service Industrial Applications

Offshore Oil & Gas Production: Subsea pipelines, deep-water control lines, downhole process tubing, and seawater fire protection piping systems.

Desalination Plants: High-pressure reverse osmosis (RO) piping networks, brine heaters, and seawater evaporators.

Chemical & Petrochemical Processing: Heat exchangers, pressure vessels, reactors, and storage tanks handling hot, highly concentrated acidic chloride mixtures.

Marine Engineering: Cargo tanks for ocean-going chemical tankers, propulsion shafts, and coastal infrastructure.
