This is the "famous skill" of Alloy 20. In a sulfuric acid environment with a concentration of up to 50% and a temperature close to the boiling point, it can still maintain excellent corrosion resistance. The addition of copper is the key to its success, making it one of the preferred materials for piping systems in sulfuric acid production, storage, transportation and processing (such as pickling lines and alkylation units).

In a hot and humid environment containing chloride ions, ordinary austenitic stainless steel is very prone to SCC (stress corrosion cracking). The high nickel content and molybdenum element of Alloy 20 significantly increase its threshold value for resisting this catastrophic failure mode, making it suitable for seawater cooling, salt chemical industry, pulp bleaching and other scenarios.

As an austenitic alloy, Alloy 20 has good strength, toughness and ductility. Its hot and cold processing performance, formability (bending, expanding) and weldability (matching welding materials and appropriate processes are required) are better than many high-alloy materials, making it easy to manufacture and install complex piping systems.

Seamless pipe (ASTM B729): Produced by hot extrusion or cold drawing process, without longitudinal welds, uniformity, pressure bearing capacity and corrosion resistance are usually better, suitable for high pressure, high purity or extreme corrosion conditions.

Welded pipe (ASTM B775/B776): It is formed and welded by automatic welding technology (such as TIG, Plasma) to form plates or coils. It is more economical and suitable for large-diameter, medium and low pressure applications. The quality of the weld and its corrosion resistance are key control points.

Heat treatment: Solution annealing (rapid cooling after heating to a suitable temperature) is usually required to dissolve harmful phases, obtain a uniform austenite structure, relieve stress, and optimize corrosion resistance and toughness.

 

Surface treatment: Depending on the application requirements, pickling and passivation treatment can be performed to remove oxide scale, weld heat affected zone and maximize the integrity of the surface passivation film. For applications with high cleanliness requirements (such as pharmaceuticals and food), electrolytic polishing can be performed.
