Product Introduction

S31803 (EN 1.4462 / AISI 31803) is a standard duplex stainless steel. It has a unique microstructure: through a precise chemical composition balance (chromium Cr about 22%, nickel Ni about 5%, molybdenum Mo about 3%, nitrogen N about 0.15-0.20%) and a strict heat treatment process (solid solution annealing), an ideal balance of ferrite and austenite phases at the microscopic level (usually close to 50:50) is achieved.

S31803 plate Corrosion resistance

Chloride environment: In seawater, salt water, chlorine bleach, and chemical process media, its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is far superior to 316L. PREN value (pitting equivalent: %Cr + 3.3x%Mo + 16x%N) is a quantitative indicator. S31803's PREN ≥ 34, while 316L is only 24-26.
Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance: In wet environments containing chlorides and/or sulfides, it has a significant advantage in stress corrosion cracking resistance compared to 304/316 austenitic stainless steel.
Acid and Alkali Tolerance: Good resistance to sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, organic acids (such as acetic acid, formic acid), weak alkalis, etc.

1.4462 plate Cutting and Forming

The strength is higher than that of austenitic stainless steel, requiring greater cutting force (plasma, laser, water jet are good) and forming force. However, cold and hot forming can be successfully carried out through appropriate processes (such as avoiding small radius bending).

stainless steel 2205 Weldability

It is one of its core advantages. Using recommended matching welding materials (such as ER2209 welding wire, E2209 welding rod) and strictly controlling welding parameters (moderate heat input, controlling interlayer temperature <150°C), excellent performance welds can be obtained, maintaining sufficient toughness and corrosion resistance. Heat treatment is usually not required after welding.
