Product Introduction

ASTM A240 316L Stainless Steel Plate, is a steel alloy containing at least 10.5% or 11% chromium. 316L is a low carbon version of 316 and is not affected by sensitization (precipitation of carbides at grain boundaries). Therefore, it is widely used for large welded components (approximately 6 mm and above). ASTM A240 Type 316L Plate is non-magnetic in the annealed condition. 316L Plate has good cold corrosion resistance in cryogenic environments. It is ideal for various industries such as chemical processing and marine applications.

Applications of 316L SS Plate Include:

Textile and paper industries, as well as water treatment and oil refining systems.
Pressure vessels, tanks, flanges, heat exchangers, piping systems, fittings valves and pumps.
Chemical processing and storage.
Coastal buildings, coastal railings and marine fittings.
TP316L plate can also be made into pipes, fittings, nuts, bolts, screws, flanges and springs.

Heat Treatment of TP316L Plate Sheet Strip

Austenitic stainless steel is supplied in the factory annealed condition. For 316 L alloy, solution annealing is done by heating in the temperature range of 1900 to 2150°F (1040 to 1175°C) followed by air cooling or water quenching depending on the section thickness. Rapid cooling in the range of 1500 to 800°F (816 to 427°C) to avoid re-precipitation of chromium carbides provides the best corrosion resistance.
