UNS S31803 Plate corrosion resistance

Resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC): Far superior to 304/316L, it is the first choice for equipment handling chlorine-containing media (seawater, bleach, process fluids).

High pitting resistance (PREN ≥ 34): PREN value (Cr% + 3.3Mo% + 16N%) is a key indicator of pitting/crevice corrosion resistance. The PREN of S31803 far exceeds that of 316L (PREN≈25), approaching the threshold of "super duplex steel".

Uniform corrosion resistance: Outperforms 316L in a variety of acids (such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, organic acids), alkalis, and salt solutions.

1.4462 plate toughness and machinability

It has both high strength and good toughness (especially at low temperatures) and excellent impact resistance. It can be cut, formed, and welded using standard processes (heat input and interlayer temperature need to be controlled), which facilitates manufacturing.

S31803 vs. other materials

2205 plate Compared with 316L: When 316L faces SCC risk, pitting risk, or insufficient strength requires over-thick design, S31803 is the preferred upgrade solution with extremely high cost performance.

Duplex stainless steel s31803 Compared with super duplex steel: Super duplex steel should only be considered when the environment is extremely harsh (PREN requirements >40, high concentration of hot chlorides, highly acidic oil and gas), the budget is sufficient, and the thinning demand is extremely high. S31803 is sufficient in most "harsh" scenarios.

Compared with nickel-based alloys: In non-extreme environments (such as no strong oxidizing acids, extremely high temperatures), S31803 can provide excellent performance at a price much lower than Hastelloy or 625.
