Duplex 2205 Tube is an (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel containing approximately 40 – 50% ferrite in the annealed condition. 2205's high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content make it more resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking than 304/304L or 316/316L stainless steels. 2205 is designed to be significantly stronger than 316/316L, more than twice the strength of conventional austenitic stainless steels, thus generally allowing for lighter wall constructions. Alloy 2205 is often referred to as 22-Chromium, with the common designations UNS S31803 or S32205.

Difference Between Duplex 2205 Tube and Duplex 2205 Pipe
In general, tube is more expensive than pipe. The manufacturing process for tube, especially seamless tube, involves additional steps and greater precision, which contributes to its higher cost. Pipes, especially welded pipes, are usually more cost-effective.
2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Tubing Balanced
The phase balance of ferrite/austenite in the metallographic structure can be predicted by multivariate linear regression as follows:
- Creq = %Cr + 1.73 %Si + 0.88 %Mo
- Nieq = %Ni + 24.55 %C + 21.75 %N + 0.4 %Cu
- %Ferrite = -20.93 + 4.01 Creq - 5.6 Nieq + 0.016 T
T (℃) is the annealing temperature, 1050-1150℃, and the element content is weight percentage (wt%). By adjusting the content of chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and nitrogen and controlling the heating operation, the desired phase balance can be obtained, that is, the proportion of ferrite phase is 45-50%, and the rest is austenite phase.
