Performance advantages of stainless steel 316lmod

Corrosion resistance upgrade of stainless steel 1.4435 plate

The critical pitting temperature (CPT) is 10-15℃ higher than that of 316L, and it can withstand media with Cl⁻ concentrations up to 30,000 ppm (such as concentrated seawater or industrial wastewater), in acidic oil and gas environments containing H₂S and CO₂, the resistance to sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC) is significantly enhanced.

 

Strengthened mechanical properties of 316l mod sheet

room temperature tensile strength ≥550 MPa, allowing thinning of plate thickness (15-20% less than 316L), reducing equipment weight and material costs, while maintaining excellent low-temperature toughness (-196℃ impact energy ≥100 J).

 

Processing and welding adaptability of s316lmod sheet

Low sulfur content reduces the tendency of hot working cracks, and matching nitrogen-containing welding materials (such as ER316L Mod) can achieve corrosion resistance in the weld area consistent with the parent material, without the need for post-weld heat treatment.

Avoid direct contact with carbon steel or low-alloy steel, use polyethylene gaskets or insulating coatings to prevent galvanic corrosion; bolt connections should use the same material or higher corrosion-resistant alloys (such as 625 alloy).

Pickling and passivation (20% nitric acid + 2% hydrofluoric acid, 50℃×30 min) are required before installation to form a dense oxide film; epoxy coating or sacrificial anode protection can be added in marine environments.

Regularly use penetrant testing (PT) to check stress concentration areas (such as openings and welds), and combine ultrasonic thickness measurement to monitor local corrosion rates; high temperature environments require monitoring of material creep deformation.

If the sulfide concentration in the medium exceeds the standard or the pH value changes suddenly, it is necessary to adjust the process parameters or add corrosion inhibitors (such as molybdates) to delay the corrosion process.
