Monel K500 tube is a precipitation hardened nickel-copper alloy with corrosion resistance similar to Monel 400, but with higher strength due to its precipitation hardening properties. It has strong resistance to stress corrosion cracking and erosion corrosion. Monel k500 tube can be used in heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, and is also used in offshore drilling platforms, subsea production equipment, and the construction of offshore pipelines and risers. Annealed state (typical value):
- Tensile Strength: 75,000 - 110,000 psi (517 - 758 MPa)
- Yield Strength (0.2% offset): 40,000 - 75,000 psi (276 - 517 MPa)
- Elongation: 20 - 35%
Aging (precipitation hardening) conditions (typical):
- Tensile Strength: 150,000 - 200,000 psi (1034 - 1379 MPa)
- Yield Strength (0.2% offset): 130,000 - 160,000 psi (896 - 1103 MPa)
- Elongation: 10 - 25%
Monel K500 Heat Treatment Process
1. Annealing (softening):
- Annealing is usually performed at temperatures between 980°C (1800°F) and 1040°C (1900°F). After air-cooled or water-quenched to room temperature.
- The purpose of annealing is to relieve stress, increase ductility and improve machinability.
2. Aging (precipitation hardening):
- Aging is usually done at lower temperatures, around 480°C (900°F) for several hours. The exact times and temperatures depend on the desired properties.
- The aging process precipitates the hardening phase, which increases the strength of the 2.4375 material.
