Alloy 201 plate exhibits a distinct combination of physical and mechanical properties that make it a premier choice for severe industrial environments. When Nickel 200 is exposed to temperatures between 800°F and 1200°F (427°C to 649°C) for prolonged periods, the excess carbon precipitates out of the solid solution. It accumulates along the material's grain boundaries as graphite-a destructive microstructural phenomenon known as graphitization.

Nickel Alloy 201 Plate Low-Carbon High-Temp Properties

The Core Difference: Nickel 200 vs. 201

Nickel 200: High carbon (≤0.15%). Above 600°F (315°C), carbon turns into graphite along the grain boundaries, making the metal brittle and prone to cracking (graphitization).

Nickel 201: Low carbon (≤0.02%). This low-carbon design prevents graphitization, allowing the metal to safely operate at continuous temperatures up to 1250°F (677°C).

Fabrication Warning

Keep it Clean: Pure nickel is highly sensitive to sulfur, phosphorus, and lead. Any grease, oil, or marking ink left on the plate during welding will cause the metal to crack (hot-cracking). Clean the surface thoroughly before heating.
